Gillette taps into Jim Telfer’s famous motivational speech

'The Honest Player' a short film featuring George North

Drawing on some of the nostalgia of previous British & Irish Lions tours and the enthusiasm for the rugby union team of 2017, Bath Rugby winger George North is to front a new Gillette short film that features the Gillette Fusion range with five high-performance blades on the front for a close, comfortable shave, and a precision trimmer on the back to help guys shape their own style.

The emotive film, with voiceover taken from the original Jim Telfer speech, focuses on the preparation and commitment that George has to his craft to be the very best he can be. The 60-second ‘The Honest Player’ film celebrates Gillette’s partnership with the Lions and marks the launch of the brand’s campaign for the upcoming tour in New Zealand which will take place between 3 June and 8 July. with George North, intensive training regime and with a voiceover taken directly from Jim Telfer’s inspirational speech during the Lions’ 1997 tour of South Africa in which he says “the gloves are off, it’s bare knuckle stuff and only at the end of the day will the man who is standing on his feet win the final battle”. With the attention to detail, the endless hours on the training pitch, the runs, gym sessions and building a mindset to succeed with moments of reflection; all these things play a critical part in the preparation off pitch to delivering the precision on it. in another motivational speech  he say’s “When it comes to competitive sport there’s nothing more important than preparation. Preparing off-pitch is what enables you to be precise on-pitch; executing the crucial plays that will set you apart from the other team. Being selected for the British & Irish Lions is one of the greatest honours for a player from the home nations. The pressure they’ll face is surmounted by nothing else. They need to be prepared both mentally and physically for what they’re going to face in New Zealand.”
